Egypt is participating for the first time with a dedicated pavilion featuring 10 technology startups at “SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026”, held in Japan’s capital from April 27 to 29, 2026. The delegation is led by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This milestone reflects the growing global presence of Egyptian startups and highlights the country’s accelerating efforts to position itself as a regional hub for technology innovation and entrepreneurship.
Official Opening Visit to the Egyptian Pavilion
The Egyptian pavilion at the exhibition’s opening was visited by Ambassador Raagi El Etreby, Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan, alongside Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo.
Their visit underscores the strengthening technological and economic cooperation between Egypt and Japan, as well as increasing international recognition of Egypt’s startup ecosystem.
Strategic Cooperation Under Project NINJA
Egypt’s participation is part of the Project NINJA (Next Innovation with Japan) program, a joint initiative between ITIDA and JICA.
The program aims to support startups and facilitate their global expansion by connecting them with international innovation networks and enabling access to high-value investment opportunities, further strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional technology hub.
Business Matching and Investment Meetings
Participating Egyptian startups are engaging in a series of B2B meetings with investors, venture capital firms, and Japanese and international funding institutions.
These interactions aim to build long-term strategic partnerships and enhance economic and technological cooperation between Egypt and Japan, while opening new global growth opportunities for Egyptian startups.
ITIDA: A Strategic Step Toward Asian Markets
Eng. Ahmed El Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, described the participation as a strategic milestone in expanding Egyptian startups’ access to Asian markets, particularly Japan.
He emphasized that the initiative connects Egyptian startups directly with global investors, enabling them to showcase their innovative solutions and accelerate international expansion.
Egyptian Startups Across Key Sectors
The Egyptian delegation includes 10 startups offering innovative solutions across multiple sectors, including e-commerce, healthcare, logistics, energy, manufacturing, and cybersecurity.
These companies include Breadfast, Chefaa, Rology, Trella, NoorNation, SURGiA, Pharmacy Marts, Buguard, MTOR, and INDOS, all leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
Selection Based on Global Readiness
The participating startups were selected by a specialized committee comprising representatives from ITIDA, JICA, and Japanese venture capital firms.
Selection criteria included international scalability, investment attractiveness, innovation level, and alignment with the Japanese market’s needs.
Global Report Highlights Egypt’s Startup Ecosystem
Coinciding with the event, Startup Genome released the “Egypt Startup Ecosystem Report” in collaboration with JICA and ITIDA, highlighting Egypt’s growing innovation landscape.
The report noted that Egyptian startups attracted over $2.1 billion in venture capital funding between 2020 and 2025, with more than 1,500 active startups and over 15 venture capital and corporate venture capital funds operating in the market.
Egypt as a Regional Innovation Hub
The report further highlighted Egypt’s role as a regional launchpad for startups expanding into Gulf and African markets, supported by strong talent availability and cost-efficient operations.
It also noted that Egyptian startups recorded $7.4 billion in exit value across more than 50 transactions, reflecting a maturing and increasingly attractive ecosystem.
Egypt’s participation in SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 marks a significant step in strengthening its global innovation footprint. By showcasing its startups on an international platform and building strategic partnerships, Egypt continues to reinforce its position as a rising regional hub for technology and entrepreneurship.
