Heirs Energies, a Lagos-based indigenous energy company, is scaling both production and digital capabilities across its Nigerian assets through the deployment of Starlink-powered connectivity.
The initiative is designed to transform asset management at remote oilfield sites by enabling real-time monitoring, reliable communications, and advanced IoT integration, improving operational efficiency and field performance.
Participation in African Energy Week 2026
Following its digital transformation rollout, Heirs Energies will participate as a Gold Sponsor at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, scheduled for October 12–16 in Cape Town.
The event will introduce its first AI and Data Center Track, highlighting the growing role of digital infrastructure, intelligent systems, and data-driven energy development across Africa.
Strategic Financial Backing for Growth
Heirs Energies’ digital and operational expansion is supported by major financial milestones, including a $750 million dual-tranche senior-secured lending facility from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) secured in December 2025.
The funding supports development at OML 17 and aligns with the company’s goal of increasing production capacity toward 100,000 barrels per day, while improving capital efficiency and field optimization.
Strong Production Growth at OML 17
Since assuming operatorship in 2021, Heirs Energies has significantly improved performance at the 1,300 km² OML 17 onshore asset in Rivers State.
Key operational achievements include:
- Oil production increased to over 50,000 barrels per day
- Gas output reaching 120–135 million standard cubic feet per day
- Reactivation of more than 100 dormant wells
- Uptime levels exceeding 85%
These improvements have also reduced losses and enhanced delivery accuracy.
Gas Monetization and Energy Efficiency Initiatives
Through a joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, Heirs Energies is advancing gas flare commercialization under Nigeria’s Gas Flare Commercialization Program.
The initiative targets the capture of approximately 180 million standard cubic feet per day of flare gas, with commissioning expected by Q3 2026. It aims to strengthen energy security while reducing waste and emissions.
Strategic Expansion Through Seplat Stake Acquisition
In a major corporate move, Heirs Energies completed an equity acquisition of a 20.7% stake in Seplat Energy for approximately $496 million.
The transaction, supported by Afreximbank and the Africa Finance Corporation, positions Heirs Energies as Seplat’s largest shareholder and enhances integration across Nigeria’s upstream and midstream energy value chain.
Community Development and Africapitalism Approach
The company continues to implement its Africapitalism philosophy through the OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust, which supports 73 communities in Rivers State.
Key social impact initiatives include:
- Over 1,600 scholarships awarded
- More than 300 youths trained in vocational skills
- Electrical infrastructure upgrades benefiting 270,000 people
Digital Infrastructure Driving Africa’s Energy Future
Industry observers highlight Heirs Energies as a model for indigenous operators combining profitability with responsible growth.
The company’s digital infrastructure strategy, including Starlink-enabled operations and AI-ready asset systems, aligns with broader trends shaping Africa’s energy sector.
As AEW 2026 introduces its AI and Data Center Track, the focus increasingly shifts toward the integration of connectivity, computation, and energy optimization as core drivers of industrial transformation across the continent.
