Group-IB, a global leader in predictive cybersecurity technologies focused on preventing and investigating digital crime, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coventry University Egypt, hosted at The Knowledge Hub Universities in Cairo. The agreement aims to strengthen cybersecurity education and workforce readiness through joint academic and practical initiatives.
The collaboration reflects a shared objective to bridge the growing gap between rising demand for cybersecurity professionals and the limited supply of skilled talent across Egypt and the wider region.
Addressing the Cybersecurity Skills Gap in a Fast-Growing Market
Egypt continues to emerge as one of Africa’s fastest-growing digital economies, accelerating digital transformation across multiple sectors. However, the rapid expansion has intensified the need for qualified cybersecurity professionals capable of responding to evolving threats.
Through this partnership, Group-IB and Coventry University Egypt aim to equip students with hands-on, intelligence-driven cybersecurity skills aligned with real-world threat environments.
Expanding Academic Access to Real-World Cyber Intelligence
Group-IB already operates a Digital Crime Resistance Center (DCRC) in Egypt, part of its global network of 11 centers. This facility provides direct visibility into cyber threats, fraud operations, and criminal activity targeting organisations in the region.
The new academic partnership extends this operational presence into the classroom, enabling students to engage with real cyber threat intelligence and investigative methodologies as part of their learning experience.
Training Programs, Curriculum Development, and Internships
Under the MoU, Coventry University Egypt students will receive structured training in key cybersecurity disciplines, including:
- Digital forensics
- Threat hunting
- Incident response
- Open-source intelligence (OSINT)
- Reverse engineering
The partnership also includes joint curriculum development, workshops, seminars, and internship pathways designed to expose students to real investigations, attack simulations, and professional cybersecurity tools. Additionally, students may gain educational access to Group-IB’s cloud-based security platforms.
Joint Research to Strengthen Cyber Resilience
Beyond training, the collaboration will support joint research initiatives focused on emerging cyber threats, attacker tactics, and mitigation strategies. Both institutions aim to contribute to Egypt’s cybersecurity knowledge ecosystem through academic publications and applied research.
This research component is expected to enhance national and regional cyber resilience at a time of increasing digital risk exposure.
Industry and Academic Leaders Emphasize Impact
Dmitry Volkov, CEO of Group-IB, highlighted the importance of academia-industry collaboration in combating digital crime, noting that building future cyber defenders requires direct exposure to real-world threat environments.
Ahmed Tharwat, Regional Sales Director for Egypt, NEA & Levant at Group-IB, emphasized Egypt’s strong talent potential and the need to prepare professionals for immediate readiness in addressing modern cyber threats.
Academic leaders from Coventry University Egypt and The Knowledge Hub Universities also stressed that the partnership will significantly enhance students’ practical skills and professional preparedness by integrating global expertise into local education systems.
The MoU between Group-IB and Coventry University Egypt represents a strategic step toward strengthening cybersecurity capabilities in Egypt. By combining academic learning with real-world intelligence and industry expertise, the partnership aims to develop a new generation of cybersecurity professionals equipped to address increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
