Fawry for Banking Technology and Electronic Payments announced, in a press release dated April 20, 2026, a new strategic move to expand its footprint in Egypt’s financial services sector. The company revealed its entry into the microinsurance market as part of its broader vision to evolve into a fully integrated digital financial services provider.
This step reflects Fawry’s ongoing efforts to diversify its service offerings and strengthen its role in advancing financial inclusion across underserved segments.
Launch of “Fawry Microinsurance” with Strong Ownership Structure
Fawry announced that it has received approval from the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to establish a new entity under the name “Fawry Microinsurance.” The new company will operate with a paid-in capital of EGP 60 million, with Fawry holding a dominant 90% stake.
This investment signals the company’s strong confidence in the growth potential of the microinsurance sector, particularly in a market where insurance penetration remains relatively low.
Targeting Underserved and Informal Segments
The newly established company will focus on providing insurance solutions to micro and small business owners, gig economy workers, and individuals who are not adequately served by traditional financial institutions.
By targeting these segments, Fawry aims to unlock new growth opportunities while addressing a critical gap in access to affordable insurance products.
Essential Insurance Products in the First Phase
Fawry confirmed that the initial rollout will include a range of essential insurance offerings designed to meet everyday needs, including:
- Health insurance
- Life insurance
- Personal accident coverage
- Asset insurance
This diversified portfolio is expected to accelerate adoption and provide practical value to customers through simple and accessible products.
Extensive Distribution Network as a Key Advantage
Fawry will leverage its robust infrastructure to distribute its microinsurance products efficiently. The company’s network includes over 350 Fawry Plus branches, approximately 375,000 points of sale, and the myFawry mobile application, which has surpassed 24 million downloads.
This widespread reach positions Fawry to rapidly scale its new offering and penetrate various geographic and demographic segments.
Strong Operational Base Supporting Growth
Since its establishment in 2008, Fawry has built one of Egypt’s largest digital payment platforms. The company currently connects with 36 banks, operates through more than 377,000 agents, processes over 6 million transactions daily, and serves approximately 54.8 million monthly users.
This scale provides a powerful foundation for introducing additional financial services such as microinsurance.
Solid Shareholding Structure Enhances Investor Confidence
As of March 31, 2026, Fawry’s ownership structure reflects strong institutional backing. Free float accounts for 64.85%, followed by Alpha Oryx Limited at 12.23%, Banque Misr at 9.74%, National Bank of Egypt at 6.05%, the Egyptian American Enterprise Fund at 4.24%, Responsibility Participations at 1.83%, and an employee stock ownership program at 1.06%.
This diversified shareholder base reinforces the company’s financial stability and supports its expansion strategy.
Advancing Financial Inclusion Through Innovation
Fawry’s entry into microinsurance represents a natural extension of its role in promoting financial inclusion in Egypt. By leveraging technology and its extensive network, the company is well-positioned to deliver accessible insurance solutions to previously underserved populations.
This move is expected to contribute to the growth of Egypt’s digital financial ecosystem while opening new avenues for sustainable business expansion.
