Egyptian Students Triumph at Huawei Global ICT Competition in China

At the recently concluded Huawei Global ICT Competition held in Shenzhen, China, Egyptian universities have secured a number of top positions. The competition saw the participation of over 170,000 students from more than 2,000 universities and colleges, representing over 80 countries and regions around the world.
Egyptian teams distinguished themselves amidst this highly competitive field, achieving exceptional results. The winning teams, representing a diverse range of esteemed Egyptian universities, exhibited not only exceptional skill but also a commendable spirit of innovation.

Three teams secured first place in the Cloud, Computing, and Innovation tracks, and a fourth team further clinched a well-deserved second-place in the Network track.

In the Cloud track, the first-place winners were: Amir Mohamed from Mansoura University, Omar Akram from the Canadian International College (CIC), and Mahmoud Hammam from Cairo University. In the Computing track, the first-place winners were: Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim from Mansoura University, Youssef Mahmoud from October 6 University, and Amira Ahmed from Cairo University. In the Innovation track, the Cairo University team, consisting of Ahmed Magdy, Ahmed Ayman, and Mohamed Ezzat, won first place. In second place in the Network track were: Nader Mohamed from Suez University, Ahmed Saad from the Faculty of Engineering, Benha University, and Alaa Abdel Fattah from the Modern Academy of Engineering and Technology.

The achievement came under the expert mentorship of Dr. Ahmed Osman from Suez University, Dr. Asmaa Etman from the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI), and Dr. Mohamed El-Mogy from Mansoura University, where the students participated with their trainers in an intensive boot camp to ensure their utmost readiness before their trip to China.

Beyond the student’s competition, Dr. Lamia Said, faculty member at the Faculty of Dentistry, MSA University was honored as the Most Valuable Instructor (MVI) as part of the Trainers’ Program. The award, given out for the first time this year, aims to show gratitude for the important contributions the instructors have made to talent development, and mark them as role models showing how the brightest minds can grow even brighter. These role models will help drive sustainable development of the ICT talent ecosystem.

Mr. Jim Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt, expressed immense pride in the Egyptian teams. “Their achievements across multiple tracks are a powerful testament to the exceptional talent and capabilities of Egypt’s youth,” he said. Mr. Liu further emphasized the importance of the competition, stating, “This platform is crucial for developing the skills and innovation required to thrive in the dynamic ICT landscape. By nurturing the next generation of digital leaders, we are investing in the sustainable growth and advancement of this vital sector. Mr. Liu concluded, “The success of the Egyptian teams underscores Egypt’s position as a rising powerhouse in the global technology arena.”

Engineer Asmaa Serag El-Din, Director of Huawei Academy Egypt, attributed the Egyptian teams’ success to the longstanding collaboration between Huawei and Egyptian universities, as evidenced by the exceptional performance of the Egyptian teams in the final of the global Huawei ICT Competition.

She elaborated on Huawei Academy Egypt’s dedication to providing comprehensive training and mentorship to equip these talented students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the dynamic ICT landscape. Fueled by a strategic vision of “leaving no one behind’, Huawei has tirelessly worked to empower the next generation of digital leaders in Egypt through its existing 100 Huawei Academies, located in more than 45 Egyptian public and private universities, as well as in governmental entities, reached over 35,000 students from faculty of engineering, and computer science, of whom more than 10,000 students have obtained Huawei international certifications in different fields such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and network. In addition, Huawei has trained over 1,000 university professors and lecturers and provides job opportunities through the “Hire” initiative.

It is worth noting that since its inception in 2015, the Huawei ICT Competition has established itself as a prominent event within the ICT sector, actively nurturing young talent and underscoring Huawei’s commitment to fostering the future of ICT leadership.
