Cairo Poultry Company (“CPC”), a leader in the poultry value chain, is pleased to announce the approval of a strategic relocation plan for its Grand Parent (“GP”) Farms to a new site in Al Mughira, Marsa Matruh, approximately 400 km from Cairo. This move underscores CPC’s commitment to operational excellence, biosecurity, and long-term sustainability.
Key Highlights of the Relocation Plan:
Investment: A total capex of is estimated at EGP700 Mn, financed internally
New Location: The new site spans 1,029 feddans, significantly larger than the current 300 feddans, ensuring less dense operations, enhanced disease prevention and higher biosecurity with up to date farms infrastructure and use of technology.
Capacity: The relocated farms will accommodate a capacity of 3.4 Mn Parent Stock PS chicks annually, safeguarding downstream supply chains. With the possibility to add more farms on the same land to reach a capacity of 5.5 Mn PS chicks.
Phased Transition: The relocation will be executed in phases over three years to ensure uninterrupted operations and seamless workforce transfer.
Rationale for the Move:
The relocation addresses critical biosecurity risks posed by encroaching agricultural and livestock activities near the current GP Farms which were established in the late 1990s. As the foundational tier of CPC’s poultry value chain, GP Farms directly impact the quality and yield of downstream products, including broilers, and processed chicken. The new location will mitigate disease risks, and align with industry best practices as well as ensure resilience against future challenges.
Next Steps:
CPC will commence preparatory work in 2025 along with obtaining the required permits, with the first phase of relocation completed by 2026 and full operational transition finalized by 2028. The project will adhere to strict governance protocols, including competitive bidding for infrastructure and equipment procurement.
