Generation Z is using artificial intelligence more actively than any other generation, with nearly half using AI every day or almost every day. At the same time, an increasing number of young users are turning to AI for personal conversations and even treating it as a friend, according to new research from Kaspersky.
The study, conducted by Kaspersky’s internal market research center, surveyed 7,200 respondents across 18 countries to examine how different generations use AI in their daily lives.
47% of Gen Z Use AI Daily or Almost Daily
According to the survey, 47% of Gen Z respondents use AI every day or almost every day, the highest proportion among all demographic groups.
AI has become an important tool for a wide range of everyday activities. Among Gen Z respondents:
- 56% use AI to search for information.
- 49% use AI for studying.
- 47% use it to generate ideas.
- 39% use AI for work.
The findings show that AI is becoming deeply integrated into Gen Z’s digital routines, moving from an emerging technology to a regular part of education, work and everyday activities.
27% Treat AI as a Friend
Gen Z’s relationship with AI is not limited to practical tasks.
The survey found that 27% of Gen Z respondents use AI as a friend, a higher proportion than among other generations.
For these users, conversational AI can serve as more than an information or productivity tool. It may also become a source of conversation, personal reflection, emotional support or companionship.
The survey further found that 28% of Gen Z respondents use AI to discuss personal issues they would rather not share with other people.
Kaspersky warns that AI should not be considered equivalent to a human friend. AI-generated responses can be inaccurate or inappropriate, while the conversational nature of these systems may encourage users to share sensitive information more freely.
High AI Usage Does Not Always Mean Safe AI Use
Despite Gen Z’s familiarity and confidence with digital technologies
