Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, announced that its Galaxy smartphones now support digital key functionality for Porsche electric vehicles, allowing owners of the Macan and Cayenne electric models to control their cars directly from their phones.
The technology enables users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles wirelessly using secure UWB or NFC connections, effectively replacing traditional car keys.
Global Availability and Samsung Wallet Integration
According to a Samsung spokesperson, the feature will initially be available in European markets in December 2025, with plans for global rollout alongside the launch of Porsche electric vehicles. The service operates through Samsung Wallet, accessible on all modern Galaxy devices, as well as select older models including Galaxy S20, Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Flip 5G, enabling a wide range of users to benefit from the functionality.
Enhanced Security and Data Protection
Samsung Wallet provides an added layer of security. In the event of phone loss or theft, users can remotely lock or delete the digital key, protecting their vehicle data and preventing unauthorized access.
Expanding Digital Services and Samsung Wallet History
This initiative reflects Samsung’s ongoing strategy to expand Samsung Wallet capabilities. The company previously launched similar functionality for Volvo and Polestar electric vehicles in February 2025. Since its introduction in 2021, Samsung Wallet has added multiple features, including storing credit and debit cards, processing payments, and supporting digital car keys.
Integrating Smartphones with Smart Vehicles
The move highlights Samsung’s focus on integrating smartphones with intelligent vehicle systems to enhance convenience and security, allowing users to manage their daily driving experience entirely through their phones. This approach aligns with the growing adoption of digital services in the electric vehicle market, as automakers seek to provide seamless, technology-driven experiences for drivers.
Toward a Digital Driving Future
The partnership between Samsung and Porsche demonstrates a shared commitment among tech companies and automakers to deliver innovative solutions for the modern digital market. As adoption grows, digital keys in luxury and electric vehicles are expected to become standard worldwide, improving security, convenience, and overall vehicle control via smartphones.
