Abu Dhabi Launches Centre for Frontier Technologies to Drive Global Innovation

Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), announced the launch of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies. The new centre joins WEF’s prestigious Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Global Network, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s strategic role in shaping the future of advanced technologies. The agreement was formalized during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, marking a milestone in international cooperation for frontier technology development.

Mission and Strategic Vision

The centre is tasked with leading breakthrough research and development, advancing global policy for emerging technologies, and fostering international collaboration to translate innovation from laboratories into real-world deployment. Leveraging the UAE’s agile regulatory framework and strong integration between research, policy, and execution, the Centre offers a platform for piloting, scaling, and deploying frontier technologies at a national level, amplified through WEF’s global C4IR network.

Focus Areas and Global Connectivity

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies positions the city as a global epicenter for pioneering research, with special focus on Quantum Computing, Robotics, Propulsion & Space systems, and AI applications. Through this strategic partnership, TII becomes part of a globally connected innovation ecosystem designed to accelerate the responsible adoption of transformative technologies.

Leadership Statements

Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, stated: “As frontier technologies accelerate, there is a growing imperative to guide their responsible adoption. This Centre combines research excellence, policy leadership, and global collaboration in one platform, translating innovation into responsibly governed, scalable solutions. Abu Dhabi is now reinforced as a global hub for science, innovation, and impactful technological solutions.”

Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of WEF, added:
“The addition of Abu Dhabi Centre for Frontier Technologies strengthens the C4IR Global Network’s ability to shape the global technology agenda. By integrating world-class research into the network, the Centre will help industries transform innovation into practical and responsible solutions that advance inclusion, sustainability, and trust in technology.”

Impact and Future Outlook

The Centre will expand frontier R&D through proof-of-concept pilots, regulatory sandboxes, and global convenings, serving as both an innovation engine and strategic platform. This initiative underlines Abu Dhabi’s leadership in science and technology, supporting the UAE’s goal of becoming a global hub for innovation and responsible technology adoption.
